Recipe for making twins

Unless I'm mistaken, what obstetrician Gary Steinman, MD, Ph. D has just discovered is a recipe for making twins. In his recent article in The Journal of Reproductive Medicine (20 May, 2006) he says that women who drink milk are more likely to be saddled with double-fun than, say, vegans. He says that something found in dairy products helps increase the level of insulin-like growth factors (IGF) in our blood, which in turn stimulates ovary follicles into releasing more eggs than usual.

He also says that Asian women have low blood IGF levels compared to Caucasian and African-American women. But if we drink milk from cows on steroids, that level goes up.

I don't know, I might be wrong. Go ahead and read it for yourself: "Study finds that a woman's chances of having twins can be modified by diet". [swiped from EurekAlert! Breaking news in science]

On a related note, Hooman and I were discussing how Nigel Lawson was Nigella Lawson's dad. I then told him that if I had a daughter I would name her Hoomana, even if he wasn't her father. He wasn't too amused by that joke.

I thought it was rather funny.

Hello,

Love your blog. One tiny comment - the candy stripes make it really difficult to read.

Thanks.
