President Bush was overheard speaking near an open microphone (again). In the midst of a chat about an upcoming G8 discussion on trade, he says to Prime Minister Blair:
Bush: Thanks for the sweater it's awfully thoughtful of you.
Blair: It's a pleasure.
Bush: I know you picked it out yourself.
Blair: Oh, absolutely.
The entire conversation with Mr. Blair is transcribed in "'Yo, Blair!': Overheard at the G8" (The Independent, 18 July 2006). The New York Times has a story on it, and Mr. Bush's conversations with other heads, called "Bush’s Policy Chit-Chat: Undiplomatic Prose" (18 July 2006).
The Times also has an mp3 file of Mr. Bush saying something, but I couldn't hear properly.
The two articles are useful in that, when placed side by side, they demonstrate how journalists turn disjointed dialogue into a seemingly coherent news story, which is often what newspaper stories are.
Yo Blair!
