More countries are banning headscarves

For some women, not wearing a headscarf is tantamount to being naked. How uneasy many women must feel, as more and more countries seek to ban the wearing of headscarves -- Tunisia moves against headscarves, says the BBC.

I'm not sure how to feel about this trend. On the one hand, I agree that the veil has become too political, and is being used by many wearers and their male friends to signal their seperateness. On the other hand, how comfortable women are about wearing revealing clothes differs from person to person. Personally, I don't think I'd be comfortable wearing a bikini at the beach, for example, preferring swim suits that are sporty and that cover my body a bit more. Some veiled women must feel the same way about not covering their head in public -- too revealing.

They could wear big floppy hats, I suppose. And to make sure their chest is covered all the way down, they could wear turtle-necks. So, all is not lost.

But still, all this is a bit unsettling. It's very strange, to me, that countries would seek to legislate what women can and cannot wear.

To me, wearing headscarves should be an option and not a requirement. If a woman feels that she WANTS to wear a headscarf, be it. If not, be it.

If we don't write it down as a law that men must wear underwear on the inside, we should impose such a rule on women as well.

My thought only.

er...mistake there.

"If we don't write it down as a law that men must wear underwear on the inside, we SHOULDN'T impose such a rule on women as well."

interesting to read about people who fear other people just because what they wear( or don't wear).does this mean that sisters in churches must "uncover" themselves too?
And i thought 90% or more Tunisians are muslims.
Intriguing news indeed.
Hope Malaysia won't do the same though.
