Aunty Sherrie. Grumble grumble.

Thanks to Carol I learned yesterday evening at around maghrib that Aunty Shahrizat "Sherrie" Jalil is now back in the cabinet as a special advisor with ministerial status. Immediate thoughts at the time: a bit rash of Uncle Prime Minister to appoint a non-elected individual [who is not a senator] as minister. It's a difficult choice to rationalize in many ways. The most obvious gaping hole in rationalization is why her and not Aunty Rafidah, who is (on the surface) a more rightful choice, being Wanita UMNO chief and having been re-elected to her seat by a 1,000+ majority.

To find out more, this morning I revved up the car and hunted for newspapers -- which tend to run out quickly where I live because there's just not enough to go around -- and found The New Straits Times and The Star ["Suratkhabar Melayu dah habislah, cik"] , two papers which I usually read online. But since I made the trek, I thought I should buy them anyway and have a good old fashioned read at home.

At the bottom of page 4 of the Times, I found the story on Aunty Shahrizat called "Shahrizat still part of govt", summarizing what happened yesterday. Wanita UMNO had an emergency meeting and then marched to the PM's office to complain about the absence of Wanita presence within the cabinet. They were still not appeased when the news filtered down that Aunty Shahrizat had been appointed adviser with ministerial rank. The story ends by saying:

Later in the evening, scorres of Wanita members, including division chiefs, went to Putrajaya to meet Abdullah to express their disappointment over the dropping of Rafidah.

Shahrizat, who was seen with them outside the PM's office, left when the women went to Abdullah's residence.

...and then it ends.

What the heck do I spend RM1.20 for? Why can't this dumb newspaper please tell me what went on at the meeting? I want to know who is for Shahrizat and who is against. Whoever is against, I want to know which alternative they back. And I want to know the history between them; the money trail (if any); and all that stuff.
