It's been a chilly couple of days, so I left the house this evening wearing a scarf and heavy jacket. It was disorienting to see that the day was still light, even though it was six in the evening. And then I remembered that it wasn't February it was April, even if the weather had me shivering like February as I skipped down the front steps.
I had a pleasant dinner with four friends from work -- my first foray into the City since I got back from Malaysia. Christina and I had the fish special, Alex the osso bucco, and Maria and Katherine the pasta. Alex's friend adopted a baby; Christina wants to move to Dubai. Both those things made me happy: I guess because they jived with the funny mood I'm in of wanting to have a baby and to live in the desert with camels, though not in that order.
After dinner we gathered on the sidewalk to hug and say goodbye while a New York bum with a stoop and bleeding fingers ambled next to us to beg for coins. We quickly split up, with as much decorum as would allow, and made off on our separate ways. I entertained the notion of making my way to the PATH station on 32nd and 6th by foot, which I did. It turned out to be a long, hot walk because the temperature had risen about 5 degrees in the four hours that we were inside, dining. But the upshot was that my energy got a boost and I felt I could finally beat my jet lag once and for all this weekend.
These past few days I had been falling asleep at four and waking up at twelve, and then showing up online and staying there throughout the night, much to the amusement of my friends in other time zones. Work has suffered drastically in that I had not done a thing, and I feel very guilty. But it's difficult to focus when you're nodding off every two seconds.
On the extra-curricular front, I am hoping to ghost write a story for a friend with a tale to tell. He promises to have some notes ready for me by tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to seeing. I also need to start practising for the annual 5 mile run. Time to get cracking.
