John Francisco shot me a message this morning after being incommunicado for 6 years. Side note: I am using the term incommunicado incorrectly, because in Latin it means "without any means of communication" and it's not true that he had no means of communicating with me, only that he had not communicated with me through the many means he had at his disposal.
In any case, he told me he has stopped diving and now has a regular office job with the department of sustainable development in his province. We had a geeky conversation about oil and gas (Shell is there) and the problems they're having with territorial rights issues. I also asked about his wife and kids. They're doing just fine.
He said he'd met Kota and Huong in Manila a few years back, which reminded me to send a note to them about P.P., our mutual friend in Yangon. Kota replied almost immediately, saying Huong was in Vietnam and that he wasn't sure if she's in touch with P.P. or not. But he was very much concerned about P.P.'s situation, he said.
Not related: One stupid thing I did today was to watch six innings of the Mets versus Dodgers, in which the Mets were leading 12-0, only to have Hooman tell me I was watching yesterday's game. Sure enough, at the top left corner of the screen it said ENCORE. But really tiny.

In which I missed the small print.
