Kabob, movies.

Last night a bunch of us had chelo kabob at Bahar and Majid's place, where I met a woman who finally explained the meaning of The Spell, which is one of those Iranian films that made me wrinkle my nose and go, "Whaaa?" It was showing on Star-TV one night while I was at my parents' place in Singapore when I was still in grad school, and Hooman and I weren't married yet. A mute girl and her family arrive at a mansion... They sleep in the basement, and occasionally wander around the grounds juggling and doing circus tricks... The master of the house is an old man who walks up and down the stairs in a red smoking jacket... She's in a room with lots of mirrors and can't get out... Bizarre. Yet at the same time, I knew that if I could only figure it out, it would be my most favourite movie ever.

So I've now been told that the meaning of the movie is: love kills. Or something like that. I'm going to have to hunt it down and watch again.

I was told to check out Maxx, which is funny apparently. So I've ordered in on Netflix. We'll see how that goes.

Me and Farhad

Hi Ana
Thanks for dropping by even though I haven't been writing! It's been tough trying to find things to say here. My mind's been occupied with stuff - though nothing for you guys to worry about, just mundane day-to-day busy-ness. How's post-Raya with you? Hope all's well.
