Had an amazingly good lunch today in the most unlikely place. A wannabe French bistro near Times Square. The weather had really started to sour, which is why we ducked in there and not somewhere else.
Hooman and I had a three-course meal, though how it happened wasn't intentional. It was just was so cold and dreary, so we each ordered a soup -- me a cream of tomato, him a crock of onion soup. Then we each had a slice of quiche, which counts as an entrée of sorts. Then I ordered a coffee and some Opera cake, and Hooman decided he would also like a coffee and some of my Opera cake. A three-course meal.
Everything was very good.

Earlier in the day, I found Paula Fox's Borrowed Finery at the Barnard Library and read it for an hour, in lieu of writing Pak Pin a letter. The snow was falling and occasionally I would sit and stare. The view from the library at Barnard had never looked so beautiful in the years I had been there as a young woman as it did today. Do I suddenly have new eyes?
