I don't know if you caught this

I'm up to Season 2 of The Wire on DVD and they've got several scenes with McNulty securing his boat to the dock and he's a lousy knotter. The second time they highlight this involves a funny scene with the bum-informant, Bubba. Bubba approaches the dock looking like a dope fiend looks. McNulty greets him and throws him a line, instructing him to tie it to "the thing."

Bubba replies, affecting condescension, "The 'thing'? You mean the cleat?" Bubba the dope fiend takes the rope and wraps it around the cleat mumbling, "Don't they teach you anything?"

While he's doing that, McNulty gets off the boat and secures the line in the rear. Bubba the dope fiend sees him and criticizes his handiwork, saying, "What is that!"

McNulty says, "That's the Baltimore knot."

That scene made me laugh because even the dope fiend knows how to tie a knot.
